New primary school at Pimpama all systems go

Tradies are ready to hit the ground running on the construction of a new primary school at Pimpama, opening in 2021.

Education Minister Grace Grace today turned the sod on the $59.6 million school with representatives from successful contractor FK Gardener and Sons.

Following the opening of eight new state schools across Queensland two weeks ago, Ms Grace said Pimpama was one of five state schools on track to open in term 1, 2021.

“Pimpama is a fast-growing area on the northern end of the Gold Coast and this new school will be a very welcome addition to the local community,” Ms Grace said.

“FKG has also been awarded the contract to build a high school in Baringa (Caloundra South) and a special school and primary school at Palmview.

“Construction is already underway at a new vertical school at Dutton Park, opening in 2021.

“These projects represent a total investment of $460 million and will support more than 1,360 construction jobs.”

Ms Grace said the school will be able to accommodate more than 600 students as part of Stage 1.

“Today’s sod-turning is a key milestone for the Pimpama community, with the school taking Prep to Year 6 for the 2021 school year,” she said.

“The first stage of the school will feature admin and corporate services facilities, prep and junior learning centres, a specialist STEM and music centre, a central covered area, library, canteen, sports oval and a multi-purpose hall.

“Construction of this new school will support close to 180 full-time jobs across the life of the project.”

Ms Grace said the new Pimpama primary school was tip of the iceberg when it came to infrastructure on the Gold Coast.

“This Government is no stranger when it comes to investing in Gold Coast state school projects, with half a billion dollars invested since 2015,” she said.

“Just two weeks ago we opened the $64 million Foxwell State Secondary College in Coomera to the first year 7 students.

“A $12 million learning centre has been built at Southport State High School and in Burleigh, a brand new $12 million three-storey learning centre is also finished at Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School.

“We are building the facilities our Gold Coast students need for a world-class education.”
