New Projects To Fight Invasive Species With Innovation

Ten new projects will receive $11.4 million under the Saving Native Species Threat Innovation grant opportunity.

These projects aim to find new ways to tackle persistent threats to native species, including:

  • feral cats
  • weeds
  • disease.

Approved project activities include:

  • training detector dogs to identify the dieback-causing plant disease Phytophthora
  • using AI drone technology to detect weed species at a landscape-scale
  • improving feral cat control technology for use in Tasmanian devil habitat
  • trialling new humane methods for on-site euthanasia of feral cats.

Each project harnesses innovative solutions to guide actions that are positive for nature. Managing invasive species is essential in preserving and restoring Australia’s unique biodiversity.
