Ten new projects will receive $11.4 million under the Saving Native Species Threat Innovation grant opportunity.
These projects aim to find new ways to tackle persistent threats to native species, including:
- feral cats
- weeds
- disease.
Approved project activities include:
- training detector dogs to identify the dieback-causing plant disease Phytophthora
- using AI drone technology to detect weed species at a landscape-scale
- improving feral cat control technology for use in Tasmanian devil habitat
- trialling new humane methods for on-site euthanasia of feral cats.
Each project harnesses innovative solutions to guide actions that are positive for nature. Managing invasive species is essential in preserving and restoring Australia’s unique biodiversity.
