New public amenities for Willawarrin Sportsground

The first step in a series of improvements to the Willawarrin Showground precinct got underway this week with the installation of new public amenities.

The new, prefabricated amenities block was brought in by truck on Thursday with the installation of the building to be completed over the coming weeks.

Council’s Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the new facility is located east of the existing building and will have a new roof and access pathway.

“The need for more toilets in the sports ground, particularly those with disabled access, was identified to Council after the Epic Horse Sale and Campdraft in 2019,” Mr Reeves said.

“The current facilities have reached the end of their lifespan and don’t have appropriate disabled access or pathways. With only two cubicles they also don’t cater for large events at the Showground.

“Council investigated and sourced a prefabricated container amenities block for the site, which will be the first of its kind for the Macleay.”

The project is included in Council’s 2019-2020 Operational Plan.

The existing building will remain in place and operational until the new amenities block has been completed and opened to the public.
