The brand-new fast response police vessel Dauntless is officially being welcomed into the Tasmania Police fleet today.
The 11.9 metre fibreglass monohull vessel replaces the old PV Dauntless, which was built in 1985.
“From today, Tasmanians can look forward to seeing this impressive vessel in action as part of our marine activities across the state,” said Acting Assistant Commissioner, Glenn Keating.
“It arrived in Hobart at the start of summer, and our marine and search and rescue police have been busy training on board over the last few months,” he said.
“Our marine police officers undertake important roles on the water, and a state-of the art vessel like this will extend our capability even further.”
“The Tasmania Police marine fleet is diverse, with 34 vessels available for different uses.”
“Last year we celebrated 50 years of our wooden boat, the PV Vigilant, and between that craft and this new vessel we’ve certainly got great variety.”
“The new PV Dauntless is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment including a Forward-Looking Infrared search camera, which enhances our capability in on water search and rescue operations.”
The new PV Dauntless is a diesel-powered jet-propelled craft with a top speed of more than 40 knots, and a total displacement (weight) of 17.5 tonnes.
