Cancer Council WA has officially opened a new sensory garden at Crawford Lodge – a thoughtfully designed sanctuary created to bring comfort, calm, and connection to country cancer patients who stay with us while receiving treatment in Perth.
This beautiful new space has been made possible thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Olga, in honour of both her and her late husband Adelio’s families, the Smith and Zampedri families.

Their support across three decades has made a profound difference to the lives of West Australians impacted by cancer, and we are deeply grateful for their continued commitment as members of our Clive Deverall Society.
The Clive Deverall Society is named in honour of our former CEO, Clive Deverall, who guided our organisation towards its goal of reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in our community for almost 25 years.
The society enables us to acknowledge, during their lifetime, our partners for the future- those who generously support Cancer Council WA’s work through a gift in their Will.
Our new sensory garden
Cancer, and the treatments that save lives, can affect every sense: sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. These changes can be overwhelming, disorienting, and exhausting. A sensory garden provides something essential during these moments: a gentle, grounding place to just be.
Carefully designed with texture, fragrance, colour, and natural sound in mind, the garden offers guests a safe and calming retreat where they can relax, reflect, and reconnect with themselves and their loved ones.
Every pathway, plant, and feature has been chosen to soothe the senses and honour the resilience of those who stay at Crawford Lodge.
