New social homes for Logan

  • Tenants have moved into 15 newly-built social homes purchased by the Palaszczuk Government in partnership with Community Housing (Qld) Ltd (CHQL)
  • In total, 526 social homes purchased by the government since July last year adding to its Big Social Housing Build program

More social homes have come online with 15 new two-bedroom units being purchased in Logan Reserve.

The Palaszczuk Government invested $5.86 million for the newly-built unit complex as part of its record $5 billion for social and affordable housing.

The unit complex is being managed by community housing provider CHQL with 22 residents now calling it home.

It comes as residents also move into 19 places purchased in Moreton Bay, many of which were coming off the National Rental Affordability Scheme after the former LNP Federal Government discontinued the program.

The Palaszczuk Government has purchased 526 homes since July 2022 to help house individuals and families on the state’s social housing register while it delivers its Big Social Housing Build.

Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“Whether it’s building or buying – we’re delivering more social homes for Queenslanders.

“Not only do we have shovels in the ground across hundreds of sites, we’re also buying units, townhouses, hotels and former retirement villages to help get roofs over heads sooner.

“Places like these are homes for families escaping domestic violence, a foundation for young people to get a good job or education, and a place for many people with a disability to live independently.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman:

“We have more than 5,400 public homes across our region and these additional 15 properties will assist in providing further relief for Logan families.

“These homes not only provide a roof over the heads of more Logan families but ensures they can easily access essential services, including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, public transport as well as nearby parks, recreational facilities, and shopping districts.”

Community Housing (Queensland) Limited State Manager Alicia Follent:

“The acquisition of the Maranoa Street Apartments marks a strategic collaboration between Community Housing Ltd and the Queensland Department of Housing, accelerating the delivery of urgently needed social homes in a priority location,” she said.

“Working with our valued development partners, we are able to address the immediate housing needs in our communities, ensuring individuals and families have access to quality and secure homes.

“We welcome our newest valued tenants and hope they enjoy these homes for many years to come.”
