The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering for Southport and the far South community with the opening of a new $1 million fire station.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, attended the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) station opening today and said the new facility was bigger and better.
“Firefighting has come a long way in the 50 years since the Southport Fire Brigade was formed in 1973,” he said.
“The new station has over double the internal space of the old single bay station, along with key features such as radio room and personal protection clothing separation which improves safety for our volunteers.
“This is on top of the additional support our Government is providing by investing $10 million for our volunteer facilities across the State as part of the 2023-24 State Budget.”
Liberal Member for Franklin, Dean Young, said the new station was another example of the way the Rockliff Liberal Government is working to build a strong economy and a safe, caring community.
“Volunteers are a crucial part of the TFS and it’s important our brigades are equipped with modern facilities,” he said.
“Our TFS volunteers join to protect their local communities by responding to emergency incidents such as bushfires, structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, and other incidents where risks are posed to life and property.”
