Ten new ACT Fire and Rescue Station Officers will boost our front-line response to fires and help ensure Canberrans remain well protected during emergencies.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman said the new Station Officers were taking a major step forward in their careers as firefighters.
“The ACT Government is committed to providing Canberra with highly trained and skilled emergency services personnel, who go above and beyond to protect our community,” Minister Gentleman said.
“The ten new station officers will be responsible for leading their crews and acting as Incident Managers for all types of emergencies, as well as the management and maintenance of station facilities and equipment.
“These experienced firefighters undertook an intensive 16-week development program, which includes training to manage the day-to-day operations of a fire station.
“They have demonstrated great determination and are equipped with the skills to be the next generation of leaders within ACTF&R. Being a Station Officer is both demanding and challenging and I congratulate each of the graduates for meeting the high standards to reach this rank.”
ACTF&R Acting Chief Officer Matthew Mavity said the training has equipped the new Station Officers to lead their colleagues and protect the community in an emergency.
“We strongly encourage and support our senior firefighters to pursue leadership careers within ACTF&R,” Chief Officer Mavity said.
“Their achievements show the enormous potential which exists to climb the ranks of the Brigade. I am certain our newest Station Officers will only bolster our professional firefighting ranks we have right across the ACT.”
