The new Wellington Square intergenerational playground, Koolunga Koolangka Waabiny, has officially opened.
Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny is one of the biggest and best playgrounds in greater Perth, situated in the south-east corner of Wellington Square.
The State Government supported the project through $4.37 million in Lotterywest funding.
The theme for the community playground is ‘Landscape of Play’ and the design is influenced by Aboriginal themes and Western Australian iconic landforms.
It features nature play, a skate park, parkour activities, a flying fox, embankment slides, a pump track, waterplay, climbing towers, as well as basketball courts.
The project, part of the Wellington Square in the Perth CBD redevelopment project, is an inclusive, culturally appropriate and accessible environment for people of all ages.

“The City of Perth has done a great job in reinvigorating Wellington Square, and the new playground, Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny, is sure to be a very popular community facility for locals and tourists alike.”

“This is a fantastic addition to Perth, and it gives me great pleasure to represent the Premier at the official opening.
“This is exactly what our city needs. If we want to attract more people to live in the city, then we need to make it more people and family friendly, with more recreational amenities like this.
“There is no doubt this investment will be a great benefit to the local community – with attractions like a flying fox, embankment slides, a pump track, waterplay and climbing towers adding to the appeal of East Perth.”
