New workers compensation claim forms and medical certificate for Tasmania

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is getting on with the job and doing what matters by ensuring that Tasmanians can access timely and effective workers compensation.

The WorkCover Tasmania Board has released a new Workers Compensation Claim Form, a new Dependants of Deceased Workers Claim Form and a new Workers Compensation Certificate of Capacity (medical certificate) for use in Tasmania.

Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the forms and certificate were developed in consultation with insurers, medical practitioners, rehabilitation providers, lawyers, workers, unions, employers and the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

“These forms are vitally important for ensuring Tasmanians get the workers compensation system they deserve by collecting the information needed to support a timely and effective workers compensation claim process,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“The forms are now available directly from the WorkSafe Tasmania website making it easier for workers and dependants to complete a claim for workers compensation, and most sections of the forms can now be filled out digitally.”

Workers can claim for workers compensation if they suffer an injury or disease arising out of, or during, their employment, and when a worker dies from a work-related injury or disease, their dependants may be entitled to workers compensation.

The new Workers Compensation Certificate of Capacity (medical certificate) has been released to medical practitioners for their use in Tasmania.

“As the name suggests, the certificate better supports positive return-to-work outcomes by focussing on what the worker can do (their capacity rather than their incapacity) and by considering the worker’s physical and psychosocial capacity for work,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“This focus is another way in which the Rockliff Liberal Government is making Tasmania the best place to work, live, and raise a family.”
