The Rockliff Liberal Government is investing $3.5 million to deliver a new eight-bed residential aged care wing at the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre in Oatlands.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff, Health Minister Guy Barnett and Liberal Member for Prosser Jane Howlett visited the centre on Tuesday to announce Hobart-based Macquarie Builders as the preferred contractor to deliver the redevelopment.
Premier Rockliff said the Government was doing what matters for regional Tasmanians by delivering the healthcare facilities they need and deserve.
“This exciting redevelopment will comprise of eight bedrooms with ensuites, and contemporary supporting amenities including a drug store, team room and nurse’s station,” Premier Rockliff said.
“The redevelopment will improve facilities for patients and staff, improve patient safety, support the delivery of high-quality patient care, and help meet future demand for health services in the area.”
The Oatlands Community Advisory Committee has been consulted throughout the project.
Minister Barnett said the multi-purpose centre was so important to the Oatlands community.
“We know how important it is for regional Tasmanians to have access to modern healthcare facilities,” Minister Barnett said.
“Our Government will continue to work closely with the community regarding future developments of the site, including refurbishment of the Callington Wing, increased consulting rooms, dedicated storage, and relocation of administrative offices to facilitate transfer of the existing palliative care ward into a refurbished clinical area of the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health centre.”
Ms Howlett said this was an exciting day for the community, with the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s redevelopment of the multi-purpose centre helping residents get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Construction is due to commence in mid-January 2024.
