Mornington Peninsula Mayor Sam Hearn is urging residents to reduce their bushfire risk and dispose of their green waste for ‘no charge’ at the Shire’s ‘No Charge’ Green Waste disposal event.
Due to the severity of this year’s bushfire season, the bi-annual event has been brought forward and extended by an extra day.
It will take place at all Resource Recovery Centres (Transfer Stations) on Friday 14 February to Monday 17 February 2020.
Mayor Hearn encouraged Peninsula residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
“If you’re concerned about dangerous vegetation in the middle of this fire season this is a chance to clear your property of anything that might be a fire risk,” he said.
Green waste includes all types of garden waste and untreated timber, which must be delivered from residential vehicles and trailers only. No commercial vehicles or commercial green waste will be accepted.
The event is open to Peninsula residents or ratepayers only – proof of residency is required to dispose of green waste for no charge at this event. For example: your driver’s licence with your current address or your current rates notice.
Delays are to be expected at the Resource Recovery Centres particularly at the beginning and end of the day. Consider using the Tyabb site to avoid delays at Mornington. Mornington can only accept up to three cubic metres of green waste per trip.
You can also opt-in to receive a 240-litre fortnightly kerbside green waste bin collection if you live in the ‘urban area’ of the shire. There is a cost for this service.
