More than 20 members from the NO QUARRY community working group had an audience with member for Yan Yean Danielle Green in Wallan on Wednesday.
The group who represent those who will be most affected if this quarry goes ahead, took the opportunity to share their concerns with Ms Green and seek advice on further steps they can take.
Mitchell Shire Council shares the community’s concerns and has partnered with the group on the NO QUARRY campaign.
The community has been very vocal during the campaign saying there has been a lack of transparency in the planning process for the Beveridge Northwest Structure Precinct Structure Plan and a disregard for the current and future residents of Beveridge and Wallan.
Ms Green heard from frustrated residents who say they have been “kept in the dark” and that the process has been “fundamentally unfair to the community”.
“What we were able to show you tonight is our perspective, all we want is to have our perspective heard,” NO QUARRY community working group spokesperson Skye Forster said.
Community members delivered a presentation to Ms Green highlighting the impacts on liveability in the area if this quarry goes ahead. Truck movements, blasting operations, dust, noise, and the impact on health and wellbeing and the environment were top of the list of concerns.
People also spoke about the impact to the timely delivery of essential infrastructure if the quarry proceeded.
“We can see no compelling reason why such an incompatible activity should be allowed when residential surrounds were there first,” NO QUARRY community working group spokesperson Bill Coustley said.
Ms Green said it is important that the community have a voice and continue to speak to relevant representatives around their concerns.
