Nominate an outstanding nurse or midwife for new consumer recognition award

Canberrans can now nominate an outstanding nurse or midwife for the annual Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards after the ACT Government introduced a new consumer recognition category.

The new award will be announced – with the five other Nurses and Midwives Excellence Award categories – during International Nursing and Midwifery Week in May.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said many of us have had more frequent interactions with the health service in the past couple of years. As a result, we’ve more often experienced the kindness, patience and professionalism of Canberra’s nurses and midwives.

“To provide all Canberrans with the opportunity to recognise a nurse or midwife who went above and beyond, the ACT Government has introduced a new category in its annual Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

“The new category enables members of the public to nominate a nurse or midwife working in a public or private hospital, aged care or other health service in the ACT for outstanding service.

“The ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards has traditionally been an opportunity for health service professionals to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of their colleagues.

“However, due to the outstanding feedback we have increasingly been receiving from the community about health care workers in the ACT, we are now inviting current or past patients and their families or carers to nominate,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

  • Nominations are to be made by members of the public via the website of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer at health.act.gov.au//NMawards
