Speed is still one of the highest factors in Wagga Wagga crashes and as part of a wider community initiative Wagga Wagga City Council is encouraging road users to slow down when driving on local streets.
In consultation with the Wagga Wagga community and NSW Police, community members can voice their concern by nominating their street to be part of the “Slow Down” program.
The “Slow Down” road safety project is jointly funded by Wagga Wagga City Council and Transport for NSW with support from NSW Police. It reinforces that speeding is not acceptable on the city’s streets.
To nominate your street:
Council’s Road Safety Officer Emma Reynolds said according to Centre for Road Safety’s 2015- 2019 statistics, 18.1 per cent of crashes in Wagga involve speeding.
“Speeding is one of the most common factors associated with road crashes,” Mrs Reynolds said.
“By working together on this campaign, we can all deliver a strong message to passing drivers that speeding is not acceptable on our streets.”
Council is offering free “Slow Down” reflective wheelie bin stickers, which highlight the lower speed limits that are in place in built-up residential areas.
Residents can apply the sticker to their garbage bin as an ongoing visual reminder for motorists to slow down in local streets.
