Six North West communities are among a record 47 regional WA towns whose residents are now eligible for free water-saving offers under Water Corporation’s 2023-24 Waterwise Towns Program.
The annual program, which last year saved 58 million litres of water in the North West, provides tailored offers to help regional Western Australians reduce water use and lower their bills.
This year, Water Corporation customers in Halls Creek, Karratha, Point Samson, Port Hedland, Roebourne and Wickham can exchange two old, inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under a free Showerhead Swap program.
In 2022-23, 89 North West households swapped 138 showerheads, saving 1.7 million litres of valuable scheme water.
Halls Creek residents can also access a free plumbing service to help identify and repair household water leaks and upgrade inefficient fixtures. This could include converting single flush toilets to a dual flush system, which can save up to 30,000 litres of water a year.
Since 2013, the Waterwise Towns Program has saved 1.8 billion litres of scheme water State-wide, helping support the long-term security of WA’s most valuable resource.
Plumbing services are limited, with registrations open until 1 May 2024, unless allocations are exhausted earlier. Showerhead Swap is available until31 May 2024, while stocks last.
