Among the attendees were Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski and newly appointed State Emergency Service (SES) Chief Officer Mark Armstrong.

Wear Orange Wednesday, more commonly known as WOW Day, was celebrated on Wednesday, May 22.

WOW Day takes place annually on the Wednesday of National Volunteers Week (May 20 – May 26) and is a national day celebrating the hard work and exceptional efforts of State Emergency Services (SES) volunteers.

Orange is the colour of the uniform donned by these selfless volunteers.

When a disaster occurs and people glimpse the orange uniforms, they know safety, reassurance and relief is on the way.

WOW Day is an opportunity for Australians to wear orange to express support and gratitude to the men and women who voluntarily risk their lives to help others during times of need.

These volunteers generously and selflessly give their time, effort and energy to safeguarding fellow Queenslanders during vulnerable moments.

The QPS would like to extend our gratitude to the truly outstanding efforts of SES volunteers throughout all severe and uncertain weather events.

The SES will soon join QPS to align and strengthen Queensland’s disaster and emergency management functions to continue to deliver world-class response.

The dedication, knowledge and expertise that volunteers bring during significant events will boost disaster and emergency responses and recovery capability for Queensland.

The QPS look forward to working alongside these remarkable volunteers to align and strengthen Queensland’s disaster and emergency management functions.
