Bass Coast Shire Council will soon begin works on the next stage of the Wonthaggi Streetscapes Project – Tree Planting in Graham Street.
13 Crepe Myrtle trees will be planted on Graham Street, enhancing Wonthaggi by creating a more welcoming and attractive town centre.
The project is jointly funded by Regional Development Victoria through the Regional Development Fund and Council’s Capital Works Program 2024 – 25.
Works will be delivered by local contractor, Bass Coast Civil and Excavation Pty Ltd.
Key details
- Preliminary works start date: Wednesday 27 August 2025 – this includes site and traffic management set up
- Scheduled construction commencement: Monday 1 September 2025
- Anticipated duration: 13 weeks
- Working hours: Primarily night works (9.00pm – 8.00am) to minimise disruption. Some daytime concreting may be required due to delivery schedules.
What’s happening
The project includes:
- Preparing the site, traffic management and service location
- Removing sections of pavement and creating tree pits
- Installing Stratavault tree cells with sub-surface drainage
- Planting 13 Crepe Myrtle trees
- Restoring the pavement surface
- Realigning parking bays, including new line marking and signage
What to expect
- There will be temporary restrictions to car parking in Graham Street – these will be kept to a minimum through night works
- Some noise, vibration and truck movements can be expected during excavation, concreting and planting
- Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times
- Traffic management will be in place to ensure safety for pedestrians and drivers
