Victorian livestock farmers hit by drought can now claim up to a quarter of cost of putting in more efficient water infrastructure.
The Federal Coalition Government will invest $5 million in Victoria through the On-Farm Emergency Water infrastructure Rebate scheme, which will be run by the State.
Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud said eligible Victorian farmers would be able to claim up to $25,000.
“Farmers struggle to find money for new pipes and pumps during a drought so this will make a big difference,” Minister Littleproud said.
“We’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with farmers doing it tough, and this’ll make it easier for them to look after their animals.
“This will make farms more productive in the good times and better prepared for the next drought.
“It will also support regional jobs when farmers use local businesses to do the work.”
Victorian Minister for Agriculture Jaclyn Symes said the program will help build a stronger agricultural sector in the state.
“We’re proud to be supporting farmers through tough seasonal conditions, making sure farms are better equipped and prepared for drought. I encourage farmers to seek more information about the rebate and other support that is available,” Minister Symes said.
“This rebate will help Victorian livestock farmers to improve on-farm water infrastructure to better manage drought and dry conditions now and into the future.”
As part of the $50 million On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate scheme, the rebate applies to new purchases and installation of pipes, water storages and water pumps, distilling dams, and associated power supplies such as generators. It will provide a 25 per cent rebate up to $25,000 for eligible water infrastructure to enhance drought resilience for farmers.
