Property Council of Australia has welcomed NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet’s fifth NSW Budget handed down today which has focused on delivering a strong infrastructure program and job creation to continue supporting the economic recovery of the state.
The 2020-21 NSW Budget delivers infrastructure investment across the Illawarra Shoalhaven with key road and hospital upgrades receiving further funding to cater for future growth of the region.
“We congratulate the Treasurer on his fifth budget handed down today which delivers on the Government’s commitment to provide targeted stimulus measures to deliver infrastructure and increase jobs,” Property Council Illawarra Chapter Chair Jennifer Macquarie said today.
“It was great to see $6.3m in funding allocated to continue planning and construction of an interchange to replace the existing intersection of the M1 Princes Motorway and Mount Ousley Road at the base of Mount Ousley.
“This is a vital piece of infrastructure that the Property Council has been asking for, for some time and it is encouraging to see government’s commitment to its progress.
“We welcome the announcement of funds for upgrades of roads across the Illawarra Shoalhaven, which includes $88 million to continue the transformation of the State and Federal funded Princes Highway program from south of Nowra to the Victorian border, $55 million to complete construction on the much-needed Albion Park Rail Bypass, $61 million to continue the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade on the Princes Highway and $14 million to continue planning for upgrades of Picton Road.
“The commitment to investment in our local hospitals is also welcomed including $40.2 million for the new Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services and Car Park and $11.7 million for the Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment.
“Funding has also been allocated to complete major upgrades at Dapto Public School ($13.7 million) and $5.3 million to establish a new primary school in South Nowra/Worrigee.
“Overall, the budget provides investment for roads, health and education in the right places to support new and growing communities – however we would like to encourage the NSW Government to continue investing in and expediting other important road and rail upgrades, for the region to improve connectivity, improve housing affordability and supply, as well continuing to support initiatives to boost economic activity and create more jobs.”
