NSW BUSINESS LEADER ELECTED VICE CHAIR OF WORLD BODY

Mr Cartwright will have responsibility for Chambers in Asia and the Pacific.

The announcement came overnight in Paris, where it was also confirmed that Dubai Chamber President, Hamad Buamim, was elected as the new President of the ICC WCF (which is the governing body for Chambers of Commerce throughout the world).

Mr Buamim said Mr Cartwright’s election was a unanimous decision.

“The World Chambers Federation were in unanimous agreement on the unwavering engagement and commitment that Mr Cartwright and his Chamber have played in strengthening the ICC WCF and the worldwide movement of Chambers of Commerce,” Mr Buamim said.

The appointment commences on 1 January 2019 and is for a period of three years.

Mr Cartwright said that his election was a reflection of the leadership role that the NSW Business Chamber has played in the global Chamber movement for some time.

“The NSW Business Chamber has been a leading voice in the international Chamber movement over a long period, culminating in Sydney hosting the World Chambers Congress in September last year,” Mr Cartwright said.

“Many have commented that it set a new standard for how Chamber events must be staged in order to continue to be relevant to our members and the wider business community.

“I’m honoured to receive the support of my fellow Councilors from around the world, and I look forward to representing the interests of the Asia Pacific region at the international level.

“I’m also pleased that I will be working closely with another Australian business leader, John Denton AO, the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce.

“With the global business network never being so well connected, it’s an exciting time to be taking on such a key leadership role, and one I’m incredibly excited by,” Mr Cartwright said.

Mr Cartwright will continue in his current roles as CEO of the NSW Business Chamber and Board Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
