NSW Parliament selects EdApp to roll out eLearning portion of new professional development training for MPs

New South Wales Parliament has today announced the launch of a new 2020-2021 Professional Development Program for members of NSW Parliament. Introduced by The Hon. Jonathan O’Dea MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and The Hon. John Ajaka MLC, President of the Legislative Council, the program is designed to equip and develop members of Parliament to be the best possible representatives that they can be in supporting their communities across NSW.

Regardless of an MP’s experience level, their demanding schedules have often left little to no time for a formal development program in the past. The NSW Parliament, however, saw an opportunity to change this and by doing so implemented a dynamic Professional Development Program consisting of a range of modern courses, learning resources and platforms covering areas such as executive leadership, ethics and behavioural standards. The Program is running across the state both for first-time politicians and experienced MPs alike, who strive for continuous development and growth. Under the program’s three major pillars of Thought Leadership, Support Mechanisms, and Educational Resources, EdApp was selected as the platform for the online mobile learning component, focusing initially on compliance and Code of Conduct training.

EdApp’s award-winning, mobile-first microlearning platform is a perfect solution for busy MPs to access quality learning on the go and from their own devices. The approach of microlearning enables content to be broken down into easily-digestible chunks, over time, giving MPs the flexibility to access and complete lessons when it suits them.

Knowing that compliance material can be quite dry, EdApp has worked a lot on getting courses to be highly interactive and highly engaging, making the learning platform quite confident that they can make even the driest of content into something that the learner will enjoy using. Rather than sitting down for a traditional 90 minute eLearning session, EdApp has found that it’s much more effective to receive learning in small chunks and to do it more often. The result of microlearning is higher retention, better understanding, and a more enriched learning experience.

The Hon. Jonathan O’Dea MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly said: “As part of the Professional Development Program, we want members of Parliament to properly understand their compliance-related responsibilities, which can often be quite dry and complex material to take in.”

“Our hope is that an engaging microlearning platform like EdApp can help make that material easier to absorb and, in turn, educate members about the important compliance matters critical to the performance of their roles as elected representatives,” Mr O’Dea said.

Darren Winterford, CEO of EdApp said, “We are thrilled that EdApp can support the professional development and growth of NSW Members’ of Parliament, starting off with the education of compliance matters for MPs across the state. We are very excited about this partnership and about giving NSW Parliament the opportunity to continue deploying engaging learning to MPs when they need it most.”
