NSW police appeal for dashcam after fatal crash near Dubbo

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are appealing for information, particularly dashcam vision, after a man died in a two-vehicle crash in the state’s Central West over the weekend.

About 4.20pm on Sunday (6 February 2022), emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, Tomingley, about 50km south of Dubbo, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Police have been told a blue hatchback – driven by a 24-year-old woman on a learner licence – being supervised by a 28-year-old man with two other passengers, was involved in a head-on crash with a light brown 4WD.

The driver of the 4WD – a 67-year-old man – died at the scene. His passenger – a 64-year-old woman – was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the hatchback and a 27-year-old passenger were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Dubbo Base Hospital with minor injuries.

The 28-year-old passenger and a baby were flown to Westmead Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

Both the driver and supervising driver of the hatchback underwent mandatory testing.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District secured a crime scene, and specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and examined the scene.

As inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash, anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact police immediately.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
