NSW police arrest man after crash with police car during pursuit at Lake Illawarra

A man has been arrested and an officer injured, following a crash during a pursuit in the Illawarra today.

Just after 10am (Wednesday 20 October 2021), officers attached to The Hume Highway Patrol attempted to stop a Ford Falcon sedan for a random breath test on Shellharbour Road, Warrawong.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

At the intersection of King Street and Shellharbour Road, the highway patrol vehicle and Ford Falcon collided, before the driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot.

The passenger – a 32-year-old woman – was uninjured and spoken to by police, before being released.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 31-year-old man at the rear of a property on Lake View Road, Primbee about 11.30am.

He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing and upon release, is expected to be charged.

A male senior constable suffered a minor hand injury in the crash and was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for assessment.
