NSW police arrest man after public place shooting in Hunter

A man has been arrested following a public place shooting in the Hunter region this afternoon.

About 12.15pm today (Wednesday 30 September 2020), officers from Hunter Valley Police District were called to Lang Street, Kurri Kurri, following reports of shots fired.

Police have been told a man discharged a firearm into the air before fleeing into nearby bushland.

Hunter Valley PD officers – with the assistance of PolAir and Operation Utah officers – established a perimeter and conducted a large-scale search of the area before a 40-year-old man was arrested shortly before 1.40pm on Lang Street.

He was taken to Cessnock Police Station where he is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
