NSW police charge four men after assaulting and resisting police at Parramatta

Four men will face court next month on a total of more than 20 charges over the alleged assault and resist of police after being ejected from a Western Sydney pub.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command were called to assist security at a licensed premises on Church Street Parramatta about 8.30pm (Saturday 29 February 2020).

Police were told a group of men had been ejected but were refusing to leave the area.

On arrival, the officers gave the men a move-on direction, and despite some members of the group attempting to make the others leave, two of the men allegedly became aggressive with one grabbing a police officer from behind in a bear hug before other officers were able to restrain him.

The group’s lift arrived as they attempted to get the man into the car, he allegedly approached an Acting Sergeant and punched him in the face.

As officers attempted to restrain the man, three of his associates allegedly resisted police and OC spray had to be deployed to subdue the men.

Four men – aged 21, 23, 24, and 29 – were subsequently arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station.

The 29-year-old Stanhope Gardens man was charged with two counts each of assault officer in execution of duty and resist officer in execution of duty, and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises.

The 21-year-old Whalan man was charged with affray, behave in offensive manner in/near public place, two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed.

The 24-year-old Guildford man was charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, behave in offensive manner in/near public place, three counts of resist officer in execution of duty, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed.

The 23-year-old Whalan man was charged with two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed.

All men were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 8 April 2020.

The male Acting Sergeant has since undergone treatment at Westmead Hospital for a nose injury and swelling to his cheek.
