NSW police charge man after assault, property destruction

A man will face court today charged with wounding, drug possession and damaging property following a four-month investigation into an alleged assault in Sydney’s south-west.

About 8.25pm (Sunday 29 September 2019), a 19-year-old man was inside his vehicle, a red Honda sedan, which was parked in Namoi Lane, Georges Hall, when he was approached by four men.

Police will allege the men, who were armed with a cigarette light in the shape of a pistol, a small bladed knife with black handle and a cricket bat, assaulted the 19-year-old man, who sustained lacerations to his right shoulder and left forearm.

The men then allegedly smashed front windshield of the car using the bat and slashed all four tyres.

The man was able to drive away and was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command attended and commenced investigations.

About 2pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 February 2020), investigators attached to Redfern Region Enforcement Squad stopped a taxi on First Avenue, Berala and arrested a 26-year-old man.

Police searched the man and allegedly located cannabis, cocaine and $1175 on him.

The man was also the subject of two outstanding warrants.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, destroy of damage property, possess prohibited drug (x2) and deal in the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2020).
