An unlicensed man driving a stolen car has been arrested near Holbrook in the state’s south.
Just after 7.30pm (Wednesday 2 September 2020), police received reports of an Isuzu D-Max being driven dangerously on the Hume Highway near Holbrook.
Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol gestured for the driver to stop, and when he allegedly failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
The ute, which had been reported stolen from Cootamundra Airport on Friday 28 August 2020, came to rest a short time later after crashing into a cattle fence, and the 28-year-old male driver was arrested.
The driver was taken to Holbrook Hospital where he underwent mandatory testing; test results are pending.
He was taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with:
– Destroy or damage property (x2)
– Drive recklessly/furiously
– Not comply with direction to stop/move etc
– Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
– Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Albury Local Court today (Thursday 3 September 2020).
