NSW police charge man after drugs found during vehicle stop

A man has been charged with drug offences following a vehicle stop in Sydney’s south west last night.

About 11.30pm (Saturday 23 May 2020), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a Toyota Camry on Alfords Point Road, Padstow Heights, for the purposes of a random drug test.

The driver, a 34-year-old man, allegedly returned a positive drug result.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police allegedly seized a knife, digital scales, cannabis, MDMA, and numerous prescription drugs.

Checks revealed the passenger, a 33-year-old man, was wanted by police from Tuggerah Lakes Police District over alleged drug offences.

Both men were arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where the driver returned a secondary oral fluid test which was positive for methylamphetamine.

The driver was released pending further inquiries and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition notice. The sample was sent for further testing.

The passenger was charged with breach of bail, supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug (x4), possess prescribed restricted substance (x6) and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 24 May 2020).
