NSW police charge man after fatal crash at Doonside

A man has been charged after a fatal collision with a pedestrian in Doonside today.

Emergency services were called to Crawford Road near Power Street, Doonside, about 7am (Tuesday 31 March 2020), following reports of a crash.

Police have been told a 61-year-old woman was struck by a garbage truck as she crossed the road. She died at the scene.

Officers from Blacktown City Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The driver, a 54-year-old Doonside man, was arrested and taken to Blacktown Hospital for mandatory testing. He was later taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was interviewed by police.

Following inquiries, the driver was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, drive in a manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death and not keep left of dividing line.

He was granted bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday 7 April 2020.
