NSW police charge man after fatal crash at Springwood

A man has been charged after a fatal crash in the Blue Mountains yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Saturday 6 June 2020), emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway, near Macquarie Road, at Springwood, following reports of a crash involving a bicycle and a utility.

The 45-year-old male cyclist was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. He later died.

The 64-year-old male driver was not injured and was taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command established a crime scene with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

About 10.40pm yesterday (Sunday 7 June 2020), the driver was arrested at Main Street, Lithgow, and taken to Lithgow Police Station.

The man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and not drive in lane.

He was refused bail to appeal before Dubbo Local Court today (Monday 8 June 2020).
