A man has been charged after producing a rifle during an alleged neighbour dispute on a property near Tamworth last night.
About 9pm (Monday 19 October 2020), officers from Oxley Police District were called to a property at Dungowan, following reports a firearm had been produced during a scuffle between neighbours.
On arrival, police were told three men – aged 29, 30, and 41 – had been involved in a verbal altercation while the 30-year-old was seated in his vehicle outside the property.
It’s alleged the 30-year-old reached for a rifle on the passenger side of the vehicle before the other two men grabbed the barrel and a struggle ensued; resulting in him being pulled outside the vehicle.
The older man managed to take possession of the firearm before the 30-year-old was restrained.
Police arrested the 30-year-old man and, during a subsequent search, seized a .22 bolt-action rifle, various types of ammunition and cannabis. The vehicle was also seized for further examination.
The man was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment to facial injuries before being taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit and indictable offence, unauthorised possession of firearms, possess unregistered firearm, unauthorised possession of ammunition and possess prohibited drug.
He has been refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Tuesday 20 October 2020).
