A man has been charged after another man was allegedly assaulted during an attempted robbery at Wollongong yesterday.
About 9.30am (Friday 7 August 2020), three males – allegedly armed with a machete and metal items – forced entry into a unit on Johanson Crescent, Mangerton, before threatening and assaulting a 53-year-old man.
The trio left the scene in a silver Ford Territory.
The man sustained a head injury and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries, about 12.30am today (Saturday 8 August 2020), police stopped a Ford Territory on Crown Street, Wollongong, and arrested a 19-year-old man.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob while in company, cause wounding/grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
As part of ongoing inquiries, detectives would like to speak to two further males who may be able to assist them. They are described only as being Pacific Islander/Maori appearance.
