NSW police charge man after office fire at Bankstown

A man has been charged after allegedly setting an office on fire in Bankstown this morning.

Emergency services were called to a shopping complex shortly after 3.30am (Thursday 17 December 2020), after reports a first-floor office was alight.

Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which destroyed the office and damaged nearby businesses.

A short time later, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command went to a home on Bowden Boulevarde, Yagoona, about 3.45am and arrested a 59-year-old man.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with damaging property by fire, and malicious damage.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (Friday 18 December 2020).
