NSW police charge man after police assault

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly assaulting police and obstructing paramedics in Sydney’s Northern Beaches yesterday.

Just before 5.40pm (Monday 22 August 2022), emergency services were called to a unit on Gilmore Avenue, Collaroy Plateau, following a concern for welfare report.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and attempted to speak to a 49-year-old man.

The man acted aggressively toward the police and paramedics and refused to comply with directions, before he allegedly attempted to assault a paramedic and punched a male constable in the jaw and chest. The officer suffered facial injuries.

During the altercation, OC spray was deployed, and the man was restrained.

He was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for treatment, and upon release was taken to Manly Police Station.

The man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts of intimidate police officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty and obstruct or hinder ambulance officer by act of violence.

He was refused bail to appear before Manly Local Court today (Tuesday 23 August 2022).
