NSW police charge man after property crime spree

A man has been charged following an investigation into property crime last weekend on the state’s mid north coast.

Strike Force Pillapai was formed to investigate a string of offences, including break and enter offences and stolen motor vehicles, during the weekend of 28 and 30 June 2019 across the Mid North Coast District, particularly from Nambucca Heads to Port Macquarie.

About 10.30pm (Friday 5 July 2019), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District, assisted by Dog Unit and Polair, attended Middleton Street, South Kempsey where police attempted to arrest a wanted man. The man allegedly jumped a fence and a lengthy foot pursuit commenced.

The man was located hiding in a bedroom of a house in Albert St, South Kempsey where it is alleged he struggled with officers before running from the house and into the rear yard was arrested by other police.

The 24-year-old Port Macquarie man was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station. He was charged with aggravated break, enter and steal, take and drive conveyance, assault (x2), beach of bail, attempt break, escape lawful custody, enter and steal, never licensed, assault police and resist arrest.

The man was refused bail to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court today (Saturday 6 July 2019). He was remanded in custody and will reappear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Monday 8 July 2019.
