NSW police charge man after pursuit at Dapto

A man has been charged following a pursuit in the Illawarra region this morning.

About 10.30am (Thursday 23 May 2019), officers from Lake Illawarra Target Action Group were patrolling when they attempted to stop a Mazda 2 on Cleveland Road, Dapto, for a random breath test.

The driver failed to stop, and the vehicle accelerated away. A pursuit was initiated, which was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Officers patrolling the area, located the Mazda abandoned on Boddington Way at Horsley.

Police had been told three occupants were seen running from the vehicle into nearby bushland, believed to be two men and a woman

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District searched the area with the assistance of the Police Dog Unit and Polair.

About 11.15am, a 27-year-old man was found hiding in bushland and arrested.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with Passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity

The Warilla man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Friday 24 May 2019).

Inquiries continue to identify and locate the other occupants.
