NSW police charge man after pursuit at Toongabbie

A man has been charged following a pursuit in Sydney’s north-west overnight.

Just after 10pm (Saturday 5 February 2021), officers attached to The Hills Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling the Seven Hills area, when they sighted a Mercedes travelling east on Ross Street.

Checks revealed the Mercedes was allegedly stolen during a break-in at a Cammeray home on Tuesday (1 February 2022).

The Mercedes stopped on Rossvale Street, Toongabbie, and the front seat passenger got out. He was approached by officers and arrested before being released, pending further investigation.

The driver sped off and a pursuit was initiated travelling along Valeria Street. At the intersection of Cecelia Street, the Mercedes failed to negotiate a right-hand turn, mounting the kerb before continuing along Marcia Street.

Upon reaching the cul-de-sac, the Mercedes conducted a U-turn before accelerating towards and colliding with a police vehicle. The pursuit was terminated due to the damage sustained to the police vehicle

A short time later, the Mercedes was seen travelling on Best Road, Seven Hills and a second pursuit was initiated after it failed to stop.

The pursuit travelled through the suburbs of Seven Hills and Toongabbie before sustaining damage, causing the rear tyre to deflate, stopping on Fuller Street.

The driver, a 40-year-old man was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station before being transferred to Blacktown Hospital, under police guard, for treatment.

He has since been charged with two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, drive vehicle under influence of drugs, take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, knowingly drive vehicle in manner menaces other, not give particulars to other driver, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

The matter is due to be mentioned in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 6 February 2022).
