NSW police charge man after pursuit at Wagga Wagga 27 October

A man will face court today charged after allegedly crashing into a police car following a pursuit in the Riverina region.

About 3.50am (Tuesday 27 October 2020), officers from Riverina Police District stopped a Kia Sportage on Fernleigh Road, Ashmont, for the purposes of a random breath test.

As police approached the vehicle, the car allegedly drove away, and a pursuit was engaged.

A short time later, the Kia crashed into a telegraph pole, before reversing and ramming a police car.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, attempted to flee on foot and was arrested a short distance away. The Sportage continued to roll backwards and hit a second police vehicle.

A search of the driver’s vehicle revealed knuckle dusters, which were seized.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit, possess prohibited weapon and disqualified driving.

He was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 27 October 2020).
