NSW police charge man after suspicious house fire at Casino

A man has been charged following a suspicious house fire on the far-north coast today.

About 2am (Friday 20 May 2022), emergency services were called to a house on Colches Street, Casino, following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and found the home well alight.

The fire was extinguished around 3am, with the house sustaining significant structural damage.

The house was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District attended and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A crime scene was established which was forensically examined by specialist police.

A short time later, an 18-year-old man was arrested on Colches Street and taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosion.

The Casino man was refused bail and is due to appear before Casino Local Court today (Friday 20 May 2022).
