NSW police charge man over armed crime spree in Blacktown area

A man has been charged with armed robbery, assault with firearm, intimidation, and police pursuit following a siege situation in Sydney’s west.

About 5.30am on Wednesday (15 May 2019), a 29-year-old man was in his car on Griffith Street, Blacktown when a male person on a motorbike approached his vehicle.

The man on the bike produced a firearm and robbed the victim of his mobile phone and wallet before riding from the scene.

About 8.20pm the same day, the same man allegedly attended a restaurant on Blacktown Road, Blacktown, and left he scene without paying for dinner and drinks.

When challenged by staff, he allegedly threatened them. He was observed leaving the scene on a motorbike, which police allege to be stolen.

In a further incident, about 5.30pm on Thursday (16 May 2019), the same man was involved in a road rage incident with a 29-year-old man on Sunnyholt Road, Blacktown, during which it’s alleged he produced a firearm and threatened the man with it before using the butt of the weapon to smash the victim’s windscreen.

Again, he was observed to leave the scene on a Honda motorcycle.

Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command have been conducting inquires into the incidents and about 1pm yesterday (Friday 17 May 2019), attempted to stop the motorcycle on St Martins Crescent, Blacktown.

The male riding the motorcycle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated however PolAir continued to monitor the motorcycle.

Further pursuits took place in the Castle Hill area and were also terminated.

About 3.30pm the same day, following information received, officers attended a home on Turner Street, Blacktown.

Upon police arrival two men, who were with a motorcycle at the front of the home, entered the home.

A perimeter was established and specialist police attended. A short time later, three men inside the home were arrested without incident.

A search warrant was executed at the home, during which police seized items of clothing and a motorbike helmet.

A 30-year-old man was taken to Blacktown Police Station and charged with armed robbery, dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, threaten injury to person with intent, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, armed with intent, malicious damage, police pursuit (x2), and goods in custody.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 18 May 2019).

The two other men were released pending further inquiries.
