Strike Force Trawler detectives have charged a man over allegedly sending child exploitation material online and possessing child abuse material.
In May 2019, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) began engaging online with a man from Sydney’s Inner West.
Police will allege in court that the man believed he was speaking with the 37-year-old mother of a seven-year-old girl and nine-year-old boy, and uploaded child abuse material through an online chat application.
Following inquiries, strike force detectives with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad, arrested a 68-year-old man at a home in Chiswick about 9am today (Tuesday 23 July 2019).
He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with possess child abuse material and using a carriage service for child pornography material.
The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Monday 26 August 2019.
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by the CEIU into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
Regular covert online investigations are conducted by the CEIU; and police in NSW work closely with their law-enforcement colleagues interstate and overseas.
