NSW police charge man over stabbing and siege at Albury

A man has been charged following a siege in the state’s Murray River region overnight, after another man was allegedly stabbed.

About 8pm (Wednesday 11 May 2022), emergency services were called to a home on Jacaranda Street, West Albury, following reports a 35-year-old man had been stabbed in the upper body.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and rendered assistance, before the man was taken to Albury Base Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The man – who was allegedly armed – remained inside the home, with local and specialist police – including negotiators and Tactical Operations Regional Support (TORS) officers – establishing a perimeter around the premises.

The man surrendered peacefully just before 4.30am today (Thursday 12 May 2022) and was arrested at the scene.

The 29-year-old was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm – serious indictable offence, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence) – serious indictable offence.

The Albury man was refused bail to appear Albury Local Court today (Thursday 12 May 2022).
