Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man following a hit-run collision in Cockatoo last month.
It is alleged a cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Pakenham Road on Friday, 26 June about 3pm.
The cyclist, a 47-year-old man of no fixed address, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He died in hospital on 11 July.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly failed to stop at the scene.
The vehicle was located nearby at a reserve on Hillside Road.
Initially, a 44-year-old Cockatoo man was arrested and has since been exonerated.
Detectives later arrested and charged the alleged driver, a 27-year-old Cockatoo man, in Cockatoo on 27 June.
He was charged with internationally cause serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.
These charges have since been upgraded to murder.
The 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 September.
