NSW police charge man with crashing into pub and fleeing at Albury

A man has been charged after allegedly crashing his car into a licensed premises in Albury and fleeing the scene in a taxi at the weekend.

About 3.15am (Saturday 21 November 2020), police were called to the premises on the intersection of David and Wilson Street, Albury, following reports a grey Ford Fortura had crashed into poles supporting the balcony.

Police have been told the driver fled in a taxi and left the car at the scene.

Three load bearing poles were damaged as a result, causing the balcony to collapse. The damage is estimated to be in excess of $200,000.

Officers from Murray River Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 24-year-old man at Albury Police Station about 10.45pm (Saturday 21 November 2020).

He was charged with unlicensed driver – resident for more than three months, negligent driving not occasioning grievous bodily harm and not give particulars to owner of damaged property.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 21 December 2020.
