NSW police charge man with historical child sexual assault offences

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged historical sexual and indecent assaults of young boys in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

In July 2021, police received information regarding the alleged historical sexual and indecent assault of two boys on the grounds of a church at Waverley in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

It was referred to Detectives from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command who commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, Detectives arrested a 55-year-old man at a Kingsford home about 8.30am today (Thursday 1 September 2022).

He was taken to Waverley Police Station, where he was charged with indecent assault on male (four counts), buggery and attempt buggery.

Police will allege in court that the offences were committed by the man when the boys were aged between six and 10 between 1979 and 1982.

The man was refused bail to appear before Waverley Local Court today (Thursday 1 September 2022).

Investigations are ongoing.
