NSW police charge man with murder after running over another man at Croydon

A man will face court today charged over the alleged murder of another man in Sydney’s Inner West last night.

About 7.30pm (Saturday 21 March 2020), police and emergency services were called to a home on Bay Street, Croydon, following reports a man had been found lying in the driveway.

The 77-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but despite their efforts, he died at the scene.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Burwood detectives also attended the location and commenced an investigation, with initial inquiries revealing the man had been hit by a car.

Following inquiries, investigators located a vehicle with front-end damage parked at a home at Lilyfield later in the evening. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

Police will allege in court that the man purposely struck the other man with the vehicle, before dragging and deliberately running over him.

It’s alleged the men were known to each other.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 22 March 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
