NSW police charge man with murder after woman’s death at Deniliquin

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in the state’s Murray River region yesterday.

Officers from Murray River Police District were called to a home on Dick Street, Deniliquin about 1.50pm (Wednesday 17 November 2021).

A 42-year-old woman had sustained significant head injuries before allegedly being set on fire.

When officers attempted to assist the woman, a male senior constable suffered burns to his hand while trying to extinguish the blaze.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

A 31-year-old man, who was known to the woman, was arrested at the home and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

He was subsequently charged with murder (DV) and refused bail to appear at Deniliquin Local Court today (Thursday 18 November 2021).
