NSW police charge teen after pursuit in stolen vehicle at Tamworth

A teen has been charged following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle in Tamworth this week.

About 6.20pm on Monday (28 March 2022), three males allegedly entered a Mercedes Benz parked on Marius Street, Tamworth, and drove off.

A short time later police received reports of a fail to pay at a service station on Gunnedah Road, allegedly involving a Mercedes Benz.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District responded and attempted to stop the Mercedes on Cole Road.

The Mercedes failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated travelling throughout Tamworth before officers lost sight of the vehicle. It was later found abandoned in Hamilton Court, Tamworth and seized for forensic examination.

Following inquiries, officers attached to Western Region Enforcement Squad and High Risk Domestic Violence Offender Team, attended a home in Tamworth and arrested a 14-year-old boy about 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 March 2022).

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and breach of bail.

The boy was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Wednesday 30 March 2022).

Inquiries continue.
