NSW police charge teen over fatal stabbing

A teenage boy will appear in court today charged with murder following a fatal stabbing on the Central Coast.

Just after 11pm (Tuesday 11 January 2022), emergency services were called to Langford Drive, Kariong, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District attended and found a 13-year-old boy with a stab wound to his chest.

Police have been told the teen was injured during an altercation.

Members of the community performed CPR on the boy before the arrival of police and NSW Ambulance paramedics; he was taken to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later.

Police established a crime scene, which is continuing to be examined by specialist forensic officers.

Following inquiries, a 13-year-old boy was arrested at a home nearby and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Wednesday 12 January 2022).

Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the teen’s murder. They will be also be assisted by Forensic Child Interviewers from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.
